The High Level Coordination Committee for Prevention and Control of COVID-19 is prepared to change modality of lockdown from May 18.
Secretary with the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Narayan Bidari told Setopati that the committee's meeting on Friday has decided to prepare for change in modality separating risk zones after discussion with health experts. He added that the modality can be changed by identifying zones with high, medium and low risks after review of the current lockdown.
The committee has also decided to send those who have been staying in Japan and Hong Kong for study or work but stuck in Nepal due to the lockdown in chartered flights. Around 600 persons stopped from going to Japan and those with Hong Kong identity card will be sent in the flights after health check-up and immigration process.
The committee also held discussion with health experts who advised the government to expand the scope of testing, contact tracing, and better management of quarantine facilities during the meeting.
President of Nepal Medical Association Dr Lochan Karki told Setopati that the experts stated that the government should be vigilant even if there is no need to panic, and bring people from abroad by making quarantine arrangements at the local bodies.
