Secretariat members of ruling CPN have expressed dissatisfaction with Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli for consultation on the government's policies and programs in the eleventh hour.
PM Oli asked the secretariat members if they have any suggestion for the policies and programs during the secretariat meeting held in Baluwatar Friday morning. The secretariat members expressed displeasure saying PM Oli was only fulfilling formality by holding the meeting on the day policies and programs will be presented.
"Dissatisfaction is normal. We said it is not appropriate to hold the meeting today as the policies and programs will be presented today itself," senior leader Jhala Nath Khanal told Setopati. "We said the meeting should have been convened at least two to four days earlier."
Khanal revealed that the secretariat members mainly gave three suggestions during the meeting. "We suggested to make the fight against COVID-19 pandemic effective," Khanal stated. "We also asked to protect the borders and territories to save our sovereignty, and to take a firm stand issuing a new map of Nepal."
He added that the members also advised PM Oli to prop up the agricultural sector.
The government will present its policies and programs in the parliament on Friday. President Bidya Devi Bhandari will present the policies and programs in the federal parliament on behalf of the government at four in the afternoon
The government will prioritize the health sector in the policies and programs to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. The government has prepared programs to procure necessary equipment for health institutions, and to build up hospital capacity.
The government will also focus on creating jobs and agriculture. It is preparing programs to create jobs for Nepalis returning from abroad and workers of the trekking sector. It will also announce agricultural loans and programs for procuring unsold produce of farmers.
It will also bring programs for revival of the tourism sector hit hardest by the pandemic. It will propose a year for domestic tourism to revive the sector.
