Prime Minister (PM) and CPN Chairman KP Sharma Oli has been advised by party lawmakers close to him to move forward showing majority if needed.
"There is no meaning of building embankments once the flood breaches. We advised the PM to build embankments," Mahesh Basnet told Setopati after the gathering of lawmakers close to Oli at Baluwatar on Wednesday. "We have advised to collect signature of the majority of lawmakers if necessary."
He claimed that Oli currently has majority in CPN parliamentary party. Pointing that discussions are being held at the party between many kinds of coalitions, he argued that all that will end if the PM were to prove majority.
"Many advised that PM should display majority even for the sake of political stability. We said 'Let's show majority to stop division,'" he stressed.
He revealed that 60 lawmakers had gathered at Baluwatar and claimed that over a hundred support Oli.
Another lawmaker Prem Ale said the majority of lawmakers argued that it will be inappropriate to look for Oli's alternative as the election was fought in the name of Oli for five years. He claimed that a total of 125 federal lawmakers including National Assembly members currently support Oli.
He, however, clarified that collection of signature in Oli's support has yet to be started.
Some lawmakers during the meeting also advised Oli to move forward by clearing the air with another chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
Internal dynamics in the ruling party is very fluid in recent times with CPN Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal allying to oust Oli from Baluwatar.
A majority of standing committee members have urged the two chairman to convene standing committee meeting to review the government's performance.
Oli is trying to win over disgruntled lawmakers from Dahal-Nepal faction to forge a majority in the parliamentary party, according to a leader close to Oli.
The party has called a secretariat meeting for Wednesday evening and leaders of both the factions are holding discussions to formulate strategy for the secretariat meeting.
