The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has borrowed the words of Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli and called his decision to bring an ordinance making it easier for him to split ruling CPN bemausami baaja—unseasonal music roughly translating to unnecessary distraction.
The Cabinet meeting at Baluwatar Monday has taken a decision to pass an ordinance allowing splitting of a party with support of 40 percent in either the parliamentary party or the central committee. The act about political parties requires support of 40 percent in both the parliamentary party and the central committee to split any political party.
NC Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma has said other issues become meaningless when the country is fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. "Let's not play bemausami baaja. The first priority of the world right now is to defeat coronavirus. All the other issues are meaningless, and should remain meaningless, now even in the context of Nepal," Sharma has tweeted.
Oli routinely used the term bemausami baaja to swat away criticism against him and the government.
NC Spokesperson Sharma has stressed that the all the thoughts and efforts should be solely dedicated toward safety of Nepal and Nepalis in an unified manner.
