Parties have recommended to divert the budget of the Electoral Constituency Infrastructure Special Program to the coronavirus prevention, control and treatment fund.
Chief whips, whips and lawmakers of the parties recommended so during the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of parliament called by Speaker Agni Sapkota on Tuesday to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic have.
The majority of lawmakers present in the meeting also advised that meeting of House committees be held through video conferencing. "We have also discussed to use our own software for video conferencing as using others' can compromise secrecy," a lawmaker present in the meeting told Setopati. "Speaker will now consult with House committee chairmen to hold virtual meetings."
Speaker Sapkota is preparing to send the recommendations received during the meeting to the government. "Business Advisory Committee cannot give instructions. But the meeting has decided to inform the prime minister about the recommendations from the parties," Spokesperson at the federal parliament secretariat Roj Nath Pandey said. "Preparations are also on to discuss with home, law and health ministers."
The lawmakers have also proposed to put pressure on the government to distribute relief materials through one-door policy and resolve the problem of daily wage workers.
Nepali Congress lawmaker Dilendra Badu also recommended that Nepalis stranded across the Mahakali in Dharchula, India be brought to Nepal and quarantined.
