Leaders of ruling CPN will raise questions about irregularities in procurement of medical supplies during its secretariat meeting Tuesday.
The first secretariat meeting since March 18 will discuss the irregularities in the procurement by Omni Group.
Secretariat members including senior leader Jhala Nath Khanal had demanded secretariat meeting to discuss irregularities in procurement of medical supplies from China among others.
The government on Wednesday unilaterally revoked the contract with Omni Group, that had brought the first lot of medical materials from China three days earlier, citing the latter's inability to bring additional materials.
It has since decided to hand over the responsibility of bringing the materials to the Nepal Army through government to government arrangements.
Senior leader Khanal told Setopati that the meeting will also discuss the government efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and the role the party can play.
Secretariat members are also set to ask the government to explain why the responsibility of procurement has been handed over to the NA. "Why the army has been asked to bring medicines that the government should have brought?" a secretariat member asked. "If we continue to hand over responsibilities for the government's works one after another, where will that take us?"
The member pointed that the contract with Omni Group was revoked following news reports of irregularities in procurement process and added that the government should explain that.
Khanal also took exception to the NA being asked to bring medical supplies. "It is not that the army should not be given. But such works are better done by the civil government. We will understand what the matter is," Khanal stated.
