The government is bringing legislation to strip pension benefits of civil servants for criticizing the government on the social media.
The bill about civil servants currently being deliberated in the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the parliament also proposes stripping pension benefits of those revealing what it calls secret information.
"If any expression against the government or state is made through the social media and any medium of communication in a way that can promote social acrimony, or revelation of information that needs to be kept secret is established," states one of the four provisions that can lead to stripping of pension benefits.
Pension benefits will also be stripped if the civil servants acquire permanent residency of another country.
The benefits will also be stripped if found guilty of criminal offense, corruption, forgery, espionage against the state, drug-trafficking, money laundering, human-trafficking and trafficking of materials of archaeological importance, abduction, practising untouchability, polygamy, rape, and others by the court.
