Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli has called an all-party meeting of parties in the House of Representatives (HoR) for the first time after being elected to the office 17 months ago.
Press advisor to PM Oli Kundan Aryal told Setoapti that the PM wants to hear the views of all the parties to end the stalemate about transitional justice.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and the Commission for Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons are without office-bearers since March.
A committee under former chief justice Om Prakash Mishra was formed on March 29 to recommend office-bearers for the two commissions. The committee invited applications for the positions and has even completed study of the applications received.
But the appointments have been stalled with both the ruling CPN and the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) claiming for chairman of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
Addressing the HoR meeting on Sunday, PM Oli had claimed that concluding transitional justice remains the priority for the government and assured that the appointments to the commissions will be made within this week itself.
He has called the all-party meeting Tuesday to expedite the process of transitional justice before leaving for Singapore for follow-up on Thursday, according to a source at the PM's secretariat.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission has received around 63,000 complaints and the Commission for Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons 3,100 complaints.
