CPN Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said he plunged into revolution after becoming mad while reading literary works.
Launching the book of CPN leader Dina Nath Sharma titled 'Jhariko Saundarya' (beauty of rain) on Friday, Dahal claimed he is a literary person.
"I was very much interested in literature. I would read books without coming out of the room for months during college days after passing matriculation exams," he reminisced. "I also wrote poems. I had interest in dance. I learned much about the Nepali society after reading essays by Laxmi Prasad Devkota and Tara Nath Sharma. I plunged into revolution after becoming mad while learning about the society through literature."
He added that he was sentimental and generous, and had literary taste right from his childhood, and claimed that he was never involved directly in violence even as the decade-long war he waged took over 17,000 lives.
"I led such a huge war. Thousands sacrificed their lives. But I am such a rebel leader who has not even slapped a person or has been slapped by others in life," he claimed. "I was never directly involved in violent activities. People find it hard to believe."
He stated he takes full responsibility for all incidents during the insurgency despite lack of direct involvement in violence. "I also got the opportunity to transform violence into peace. I become a special person as I also led the democratic process."
