Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has warned of street protests if the government does not amend some of the bills tabled in the parliament.
The main opposition leader reiterated the stand that bills including Media Council Bill, National Human Rights Commission Bill and others should be amended. "We will take to the streets against the government if the bills are not amended," Deuba said addressing a program in Kathmandu to mark the 37th death anniversary of BP Koirala. "We will obstruct the House if the bills are not amended."
He added that the party would be forced to take to the streets if the government continues to attack on democracy and the people's rights. Reminding that BP considered nationalism and socialism as the mandatory conditions for democracy, he pointed that the country would achieve prosperity if it moves forward incorporating those values.
NC Vice-president Bimalendra Nidhi said BP proposed the ideology of democratic socialism against the autocratic communist rule, and claimed that the federal democratic republic can be moved forward through the ideology of democratic socialism.
