The main opposition leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has taken exception to adjournment of the House of Representatives (HoR) at a time when the whole country is reeling due to floods and landslides.
Nepali Congress (NC) President Deuba, who reached the parliament on Monday to participate in the meeting, said more discussions should have been held at the time of disaster. "Why adjourn the House when the country has been hit by floods and landslides?" he questioned. "We had registered an urgent motion of public importance to discuss about the disaster. Why adjourn the House when everybody should have come together and discussed?"
He also raised the role of Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara in adjournment. "Speaker had initially said the House will continue. Somebody may have threatened him later. He may have been scared," he claimed. "We had proposed that we all should move forward together after detailed discussion about the disaster."
Deuba instructed NC cadres to work in relief and rescue of victims, and stressed that all should work in favor of the victims after holding discussions in the House.
Chief Whip of NC Bal Krishna Khand said lawmaker Minendra Rijal had registered the urgent motion of public importance related to floods and landslides but the ruling party seemed reluctant for discussion.
He called adjournment of the House, at a time when all the parties should have come together to provide confidence and hope to the people hit by the disaster, unfortunate.
