Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli has claimed that people have started to wear masks to oppose the government.
Addressing a program in Kathmandu on Saturday, PM Oli had claimed that nobody wears mask now as there is no dust in the Kathmandu Valley while people had to wear one while he assumed office a year ago.
"I had said that Kathmandu had a lot of dust when I became PM. It is not so dusty now. One could not walk without wearing a mask then. It is not so now. One can also walk without using a mask. And we are improving it further," he said addressing a program on Friday. "Some have now remembered that one needs to wear a mask and started to wear one to oppose the government. I wish them good luck. It is a good habit to wear mask as dust would get inside otherwise. Please do wear masks even if due to your ire with me. But this will not stop our campaign to clean the roads."
The PM's claim that nobody wears a mask in the Valley now has been widely criticized in the social media and elsewhere.
Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Rangmati Shahi on Thursday offered PM Oli to ride pillion on her scooter to check whether there is dust in Kathmandu or not.
"He sits inside an air-conditioned vehicle with tinted glass. How can one see through the tinted glass?" Shahi said during the meeting of the Development Committee of the parliament. "Dear PM, let's go to Banasthali on my scooter," Shahi, who stays in Banasthali, offered.
She added that PM Oli would be able to decide whether one needs a mask in the Valley or not after riding pillion with her.
