CPN Chairmen KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal have intensified political consultations and meetings in recent times after facing criticism following revelation of their differences.
The two chairmen had a long meeting even Wednesday morning. A secretariat member told Setopati that they are discussing in a way to call the secretariat meeting only after reaching agreement. "They have started discussions in a way to end the differences in the political document and between them. They may call secretariat meeting only after that," the leader added.
The last secretariat meeting of the ruling CPN on June 22 was stalled after Prime Minister (PM) Oli proposed to rewrite the political document and keep people's multiparty democracy as the party's guiding principle in the political document.
The political document prepared by a committee led by senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has kept socialism-oriented people's democracy as the party's ideology incorporating the people's multiparty democracy of the then CPN-UML and the people's democracy for the 21
st century of the then CPN (Maoist Center).
Oli is showing some restraint after repeated discussions with Dahal and Nepal, and has since publicly stated that people's democracy will be the guiding principle for now. Nepal has told Oli that the people's multiparty democracy can be discussed in the general convention but the party's ideology should not be changed now.
"The chairmen concur on the party's political ideology and are trying to forge consensus on how to make that public and end the unification," CPN Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha said.
Oli had earlier stated that all processes of unification will be completed by mid-July. But Oli is facing difficulties in recent times after differences with Nepal on the issue of division of responsibilities including that of leading the departments, and with Dahal on the issue of political document and implementation of past agreements.
