Senior leader of ruling CPN and former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has said the media bill was brought without discussion in the party.
"There must be discussion in the party while taking important decisions. But there is no intra-party discussion while taking any decision now," Nepal said addressing a press conference in Ghorahi, Dang on Monday. "The practice of not discussing issues in the party is sad."
He revealed that there has been no discussion of the current problems and review of the government's performance inside the party. He reasoned that the government would not be alone and the whole party would defend the government if such issues are discussed.
He added that the party leaders are confused what to say about the bills being brought without even discussing inside the party and expressed dissatisfaction at the practice of not discussing issues in the part despite repeatedly demanding so.
He, however, did not reveal whether he supports or opposes the media bill, and opined that there should be credibility in news. He claimed that public confidence in the media has been gradually eroding in recent times and news reports are based on guesses instead of facts and truth. "Nobody should be allowed to do whatever one pleases.
It is necessary to make the media a bit disciplined," he stated.
He also urged the CPN led by Netra Bikram Chand to come for dialogue instead of terrorizing the people with guns. Stressing that nobody has the rights to extort people he urged the party to not dream about coming to power by using guns.
He also urged the government to not deal with Chand's party in a tough manner stating that the government should not tread an autocratic path.
Nepal also opined that everybody including CPN General Secretary Bishnu Paudel and others should be punished if found guilty in Baluwatar land grab.
