Socialist Party Nepal has said its chairman and Deputy Prime Minister Upendra Yadav was asked questions violating the code of conduct of journalists. It has also urged its cadres to exercise restraint.
The party has issued a press statement on Monday condemning the interview claiming that the host asked questions in a biased and unbecoming manner. "Socialist Party Nepal and its chairman Yadav has always been respecting press freedom," the statement says. "We instruct the whole party and the cadres to not be angered by the sad incident that happened at the Avenues Television Office Sunday night, and exercise restraint by not doing wrongful activities," the statement adds.
The Birgunj Office of Avenues was vandalized earlier on Monday allegedly by the party cadres.
A few men in black masks arrived when the staffers were working and vandalized at the office. "We were working. A few men wearing black masks arrived at around 12:30 in the afternoon and vandalized the office. They smashed the glass and tore the banner," Avenues journalist in Birgunj Muskan Shrestha told Setopati. "They did not say who they are and why they vandalized our office. I suspect they may be cadres of Socialist Party Nepal."
