The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has directed the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Office and the Department of Archaeology to submit it a report on the Bag Durbar's retrofitting or other rebuilding works along with the organizational analysis.
A meeting of NRA, the government body constituted to carry out post-earthquake reconstruction works held with the representatives from the authorities concerned including the Department, Metropolitan City and Central Project Implementation Unit under the Education Ministry Wednesday issued this directive, according to NRA Spokesman Yam Lal Bhusal.
The historic Sundhara-based Bag Durbar was damaged by the 2015 April earthquake.
The meeting chaired by NRA Chief Executive Officer Yubraj Bhusal also instructed the Department to complete the reconstruction of historic Rani Pokhari (pond) and Balgopaleshwor Temple within the current fiscal. There was an agreement in the meeting to restore the Rani Pokhari by coming mid- January and its second phase beautification works by this fiscal year.
Besides, the meeting decided to conduct a weeklong training for masons at the local level to address the public grievances over lack of required trained/skilled masons at all 282 levels of the 31 quake-affected districts. The NRA has planned to produce 54,000 skilled human resources (masons) to facilitate in the reconstruction drive.
Central Project Implementation Units under the Ministry of Urban Development and Federal Affairs and Local Development, Cottage and Small Industries Committee, District Coordination Committee Secretariat under the Poverty Alleviation Fund and other related non-government offices are given the responsibility of arranging and conducting such training.
