The flood in the Bhotekoshi River has completely damaged nearly 40 kilometers of roadway in Rasuwa.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, the road connecting Betrawati through Mailung to Syafrubesi-Rasuwagadhi has been completely destroyed.
A roughly 10-kilometer section of the road from Galchhi to Trishuli also remains closed.
Similarly, approximately 13 kilometers of the Prithvi Highway has been covered in mud and debris. The ministry said that clearing the debris and reopening the road has been given top priority.
The flood has also completely damaged 41 bridges. The government currently has seven Bailey bridges of up to 50 meters in length, and work has begun to install them based on identified needs and feasibility, the ministry said.
According to the ministry, the governments of India and China have also pledged to immediately provide necessary Bailey bridges.
In the first phase, the government is prioritizing the reopening of the Prithvi Highway and restoring Rasuwa’s road connection to the national road network. Preparations are underway to install a Bailey bridge at Betrawati for that purpose, according to the ministry.
It will not be possible to reach Syafrubesi via Dhunche until the road to Betrawati is reopened.
The ministry said that a total of 20 pieces of equipment – 10 provided by the government and 10 by the private sector – have been deployed to accelerate road-clearing efforts.
Work is being carried out at an accelerated pace, with priority given to rebuilding damaged roads and bridges and restoring transportation services, it added.
