Renowned chef Santosh Shah has been released on a personal recognizance bond after depositing the amount related to an alleged fraud case.
According to Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, Shah was released on Monday evening.
“After he paid the amount involved in the fraud case to the victim party and submitted its proof to us, there was no need to keep him in custody. He was therefore released on a personal bond,” Bhattarai said.
According to Bhattarai, Shah paid a claim amount of Rs 450,000.
A team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office had arrested Shah in Janakpur on Friday on charges of fraud and brought him to Kathmandu. He was arrested after an arrest warrant was issued by the Kathmandu District Court based on a complaint filed by Shakuntala Adhikari.
Separately, authorities stated that the Kathmandu District Court had on June 3, 2025, sentenced Shah to one month in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 125,000 in a banking offense case involving a claim of Rs 2.5 million.
Police said that he has not yet been sent to serve the sentence because the deadline for appearing before the court in that case has not yet expired.
