Local residents whose homes were swept away on Sunday by a debris-laden flood in the Therang Khola, which flows along the boundary of Wards No. 2 and 4 of Chumanubri Rural Municipality in Gorkha, have been provided temporary accommodation at a hotel.
According to Chumanubri Rural Municipality Chairman Nima Lama, temporary lodging has been arranged at a hotel for members of four households who were rendered completely homeless by the flood.
Lama said that the flood-affected families have been provided temporary shelter at a hotel operated by Phurpu Thile Lama, a member of Ward No. 4.
The Therang Khola flooded at around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, damaging four houses, two bridges, and a hydropower project.
Lama said that relief materials have also been distributed to the residents whose homes were swept away.
According to him, Orken Chhorten Lama, Lakpa Bhuti Lama, Nurbu Wangyal Lama, and Chhiring Wangdi Lama have received immediate relief supplies including rice, cooking oil, salt, noodles, biscuits, spices, and sugar.
Meanwhile, the Manaslu trekking trail has been temporarily closed following the flooding in the Therang Khola. The rural municipality is preparing to reopen the trail by making alternative arrangements for the bridges that were swept away.
Lama said that an on-site inspection led by Ward No. 4 Chairman Pema Gyalpo Lama has been carried out, and that work to open an alternative route along the Suksam suspension bridge section will begin on Monday.
