The House of Representatives election is scheduled to take place on March 5. In preparation, the Election Commission reached out to the Meteorological Forecast Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology to inquire about the likelihood of rain or snowfall in the Himalayan regions during that time and has now received a response.
The Election Commission had formally sent a letter to the Division requesting details on the expected weather conditions for the month of Falgun (Mid February-Mid March). In its reply, the Division noted that current technology only allows for accurate weather forecasts up to one week in advance.
According to Commission Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the commission had specifically asked for a forecast covering the period from February 22 to March 14, but the Division explained that predicting specific conditions that far ahead is not currently possible with existing technology. Instead, the Division conducted a thorough study of historical data and provided the commission with the average weather records from the past 30 years.
Based on this long-term analysis, the Division informed the commission that there is typically a lack of rainfall during this period in Falgun. The historical records from the last 30 years show that it has generally not rained between March 4 and March 7.
Spokesperson Bhattarai mentioned that the records indicate the weather tends to be quite dry around March 4, though they have requested the Division to provide continuous updates as the date approaches. He added that, based on current findings, it does not appear that the election will be adversely affected by weather conditions.
