X (formerly Twitter) and WeChat, which are among the social media platforms banned by the government of Nepal, have also expressed interest in registering.
On Thursday, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology had issued a directive to ban 26 social media platforms not registered in Nepal. Following the directive, issues have arisen on these social media platforms since Friday morning.
Rabindra Prasad Paudyal, the ministry’s information officer, said that representatives of X and WeChat, which are among the deactivated social media platforms, have shown interest.
"X and WeChat have shown interest. However, they have not officially filed an application yet," he said.
Hamro Patro submitted its application on Thursday itself, and it is in the process of being registered.
Similarly, a representative of Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has also contacted the ministry from Singapore.
The representative has been provided with details about the registration process and required documents via email.
