Rashtrakavi Madhav Prasad Ghimire passes away at 101

Rashtrakavi (poet of the nation) Madhav Prasad Ghimire has passed away Tuesday.

Ghimire, 101, breathed his last at his residence in Lainchaur at around 5:30 in the evening, family member Ashesh Sharma told Setopati. He was unwell in recent times.

The funeral rites are planned to be held on Wednesday and the Nepal Army (NA) will make all the arrangements for funeral rites, according to Sharma.

NA Spokesperson Brigadier General Santosh Ballav Paudel said the army will provide funeral honors. Ghimire was conferred honorary rank of brigadier general of the army by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari.

"We are ready to provide honors an honorary brigadier general deserves. If the Home Ministry decides to provide additional honors, it will be done accordingly," Paudel said.

He revealed that 11-gun salute is given to deceased honorary brigadier general.
