As many as seven subjects will be taught in Grade XI and XII from the next academic session.
Curriculum Development and Evaluation Committee has approved addition of two subjects to the existing five being taught to modify Grade XI and XII curriculum.
There will not be any faculties including science, education, management and humanities. Students of Grade XI and XII will now have to study Nepali, English, social and practically useful education and three optional subjects.
The removal of mathematics in Grade XI and XII was widely criticized. However, the students can choose mathematics as an optional subject. They can also choose mathematics instead of practically useful education.
"The committee has approved the new curriculum model. We will implement the model in Grade XI," Acting Director of the Curriculum Development and Evaluation Center Krishna Kapri told Setopati, "Preparations are on to arrange books as per the new curriculum."
According to Kapri, only seven subjects will be taught in Grade IX and X from the next academic session. Health and population education will be removed. Preparations are underway to include the subject matters related to technology in science. Five subjects will be compulsory and two will be optional.
Either civil and moral education or business will be removed from the curriculum of Grade VI to VIII. "We're not decreasing or increasing the subjects but we are including the subject matters that match the subject," he said. Similarly, the curriculum of Grade I to Grade III will be also prepared on the basis of subject-wise education.
