Hitendra Dev Shakya has resumed his duties as the managing director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
Following the writ of mandamus issued by the Supreme Court, Shakya arrived at the NEA’s office and took charge at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
Earlier, immediately after he became minister for energy, water resources, and irrigation, Kulman Ghising had removed Shakya from the post of NEA managing director on September 21 and replaced him with Manoj Silwal.
Shakya had then filed a petition against Ghising's decision at the Supreme Court, arguing that he was appointed for a five-year term and that the decision to remove him was unjust.
On Monday, a bench of Justices Nahakul Subedi and Shreekanta Paudel issued a writ of mandamus ordering that Shakya be allowed to resume his previous duties as the managing director of the NEA.
