A corruption case has been filed against Nepali Congress leader Santosh Chalise.
He was elected to the House of Representatives from Kathmandu Constituency No. 3 in the 2022 general election. Before that, he was elected mayor of Gokarneshwar Municipality in the 2017 local level election.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a case against Chalise at the Special Court on Sunday, claiming 36.8 million rupees in damages, said the court’s information officer, Yagyaraj Regmi.
Chalise is accused of illegally amassing the amount while serving as the mayor of Gokarneshwar Municipality.
Chalise is also the chairman of the House of Representatives’ Finance Committee.
The NC’s Kathmandu Constituency No. 3 committee recently recommended him as the sole candidate for the upcoming House of Representatives election.
