It has emerged that Prakash Pathak, who recently issued death threats to 10 high-ranking individuals in Nepal, has four prior cases registered against him.
Police made this discovery during an investigation into his criminal background.
The first case against him was registered at the Bauddha Police Circle. The case was filed on June 23, 2013, accusing Pathak of causing a disturbance and obstructing vehicular movement.
Police sources confirmed that around the same time, another case was also registered against him for public offense.
The police investigation also found two cases registered against Pathak at the District Police Range, Kathmandu. He was accused of fraud, breach of trust, and extortion in these two cases.
The first of these was registered on June 6, 2019. It was reportedly settled after the complainant received the due amount.
The other case was registered on December 12, 2023. According to Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, spokesperson for the District Police Range, Kathmandu, Pathak has been absconding in this case.
“This case is still under consideration in court. Procedures such as taking witness statements are ongoing,” he said. “He is still found to be absconding.”
Six individuals had filed a complaint against Pathak with the police, accusing him of defrauding them of Rs 6.5 million.
“He collected money from us, promising to send us abroad. But after collecting the money, he did not send us abroad. Instead, he has cut off contact and been on the run. Therefore, we request legal action,” their complaint states.
Pathak claimed on social media that he used the collected money to pay for weapons and sharp shooters. He claims to have collected Rs 40 million from various individuals.
“While I was running a consultancy, I collected 40 million for visas for places including Europe and New Zealand,” he said. “I have to return 20 million to those whose visas were rejected. I will and must return it.”
He added, “I have invested all the money in weapons and sharp shooters. I request all my clients to wait a few months. I will make you happy.”
On Monday, Pathak mentioned Prem Kumar Rai, the chief commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, and said that he has only 24 hours left. He has been issuing threats, saying Rai must resign or he will be assassinated.
Pathak is currently on the police's wanted list for threatening Rai and nine other high-profile individuals. Various police units are searching for him.
Last Saturday, he sent an email threatening to kill 10 people in 10 days. He remains active on social media.
Pathak claims to have been the operator of “Happy Pathak Entertainment, NISD.”
