Jhamak Ghimire is a well-known name among the writers who are producing fine pieces of literature despite their crippling physical disabilities.
Here is another female suffering from the same condition as Jhamak's, even worse, who has come up with a novel titled 'Naya Soch (new thought)'.
While Jhamak writes with her toes, this new writer Samita Shrestha 'Poora' does so with the help of the backside of her palm, pressing the keys on her tablet.
Born at Shera of then Banepa municipality-4, Kavrepalanchowk district on January 8, 1991, Poora is completely bed-ridden now. In the beginning, she could sit in a wheelchair and speak. But over the course of time, she could not move nor speak and was confined to bed.
It was on December 1, 2006, that Poora had a fatal fall which brought her to this condition. "Samita was a ninth grader at that time and had come home after finishing her school exams. She suddenly fell while going along with her mother to the shop. The moment she fell on the ground, she clenched her fists and started shaking as if in a seizure," narrated Nirmala Shrestha, Poora's aunt, explaining about that fateful incident.
According to Nirmala, Pooja was hospitalized for four months after that but her condition did not improve.
The family members have given a tablet to Poora so that she will be engaged and not feel bored while it would be easier for her to spend time. She watches the news on her tablet and keeps herself abreast of the happenings in the country and around the world. She also keeps herself busy on Facebook.
Not only that, Poora also writes poetry and literature on contemporary topics. It was her dream to publish a book one day and now that dream has materialized, thanks to the Shabda Yatra Publication, as told by Nirmala.
She cannot go toilet, eat food and lie down and stand without other's help. Her mother, Sabitri, is always by her side.
Although she failed to continue her study and cannot go around and see the world outside, her self-confidence is very strong. 'Poora' is her nickname kept by herself.
Sabdayatra Publication had organized a program to release the novel 'Naya Soch' by Poora on Monday on the occasion of writer's birthday at Banepa-4.
On the occasion, Publication Chairperson Hari Manjushree said that one can do any type of work if s/he has the willpower even after s/he is physically disabled.
Manjushree said that support and cooperation of family is indispensable to complete every work. Manjushree said that the Sabdayatra Publication was ready to publish other creations of 'Poora'.
The novel has 42 pages and has been divided into 26 sections. 'Poora' has suggested the youths, who are opting for overseas employment, to develop the country staying in the country itself as well as urged to modernize agriculture as Nepal is the agricultural country.
