Infrastructure building has grabbed the pace along the Narchyang trekking route to the Annapurna Base Camp that boasts of the 8091 meters Annapurna I.
Construction of a suspension bridge has been over along Nilgiri river that connects to the base camp, while initiatives have started to set up suspension bridges at two other places, said Tej Gurung, chairman of the Narchyang village conservation and tourism conservation committee.
The 37 meters-long bridge was built with the financial help from the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), and local people’s labor donation. The project costs Rs 1 million.
Likewise, the trekking route has got upgraded, and temporary huts meant for the trekkers have been erected along the way on the initiatives of concerned authorities and local people.
The route that runs along the banks of Nilgiri river was constructed in 2072 B.S. at the cost of Rs 4 million provided by the Department of Tourism.
As a result of infrastructure building along the route, trekkers and mountaineers have been benefited in various ways ranging from relieving them of reaching their destinations through a costly helicopter service for want of an alternative route.
Besides, the route is the shortest way to reach the base camp which would save trekker’s time, said Gurung.
Earlier, trekkers or mountaineers had to take the longest Mustan’s Kunjo route to get to the camp.
The Narchayang route is becoming an alternative route, thus attracting trekkers and climbers, said Bidur Bikram Kuinkel, Chief of the area office of the ACAP, Ghandruk.
