Voting in the second phase of federal and provincial elections in 45 districts finished mostly peacefully apart from cancellation of voting at a couple of polling centers.
Voter turnout was over 65 percent, the Election Commission (EC) announced organizing a press conference Thursday evening. Gulmi recorded the highest turnout at 71 percent, Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav informed during the press conference. Yadav said turnout is a little higher than 65 percent of the first phase, and claimed that it will rise further when all the details arrive.
Voting had started across the country at seven in the morning and ended at five in the evening. A total of 12,235,993 voters were eligible to exercise their franchise in the second phase of election, according to the EC. The EC had deployed 155,000 staffers for polling.
Voting in Mathura Secondary School A and B in Sandhikharka municipality of Arghakhanchi district has been cancelled. Locals vandalized the polling center after finding that election officer Surendra Raj Adhikari gave unsigned ballots to the voters.
