Former prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is also the coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), has said that cooperation with the CPN-UML will move forward once again.
Addressing a unity meeting and training program of the party’s Koshi province committee in Biratnagar on Friday, Dahal said that his party would work together with the UML on both parliamentary and street fronts.
"In the current situation, cooperation with the UML has become essential both to ensure a strong presence in Parliament and to strengthen street protests," he said.
Dahal said that although an immediate party unification is unlikely, an environment conducive to cooperation has already been created and this conclusion was reached through discussions on the matter.
Recalling his tendency to bring about "disruptions" throughout his political career, Dahal announced that there would be another new disruption at the upcoming general convention.
Calling it the "final disruption" of his life, he urged party cadres to be prepared for it.
He said that despite differences, there is no alternative to strengthening the communist party and one's own home.
During his address, Dahal also criticized the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), claiming that the party's true character had been exposed within less than 100 days of joining the government.
"By collecting customs duties on goods worth more than Rs 100 at border points and demolishing settlements of poor landless people, the RSP has revealed its true identity. They are losing credibility in the eyes of the public because of their own actions, and we are not responsible for that," he said.
Accusing the current government of moving forward in a "neoliberal and fascist manner," Dahal portrayed the RSP as being opposed to the poor, landless squatters, indigenous people, and oppressed communities.
He further alleged that the RSP is attempting to abolish both the provincial structure and the Constitution.
Dahal said that the time has come to become "true communists" in order to fight against what he described as authoritarianism and fascism.
"Should we wake up now or not? Should we become true communists or not?" he asked party cadres, adding, "Until we make a firm resolution to become communists, we cannot win the fight against this authoritarian system and fascism."
