Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has said that, if necessary, the foreign minister could provide clarification on border-related issues directly in Parliament.
At Lamichhane’s invitation, an all-party meeting was held on Monday at Singha Durbar, marking the first such meeting since the election. The meeting also discussed ways to end the ongoing deadlock in Parliament.
The parliamentary impasse stems from remarks made by Prime Minister Balen Shah in the House of Representatives, where he stated that “it appears Nepal has also encroached on India’s land.” Opposition parties have demanded that he either provide evidence to substantiate the claim or have the statement expunged from the parliamentary record..
All opposition parties except the Shram Sanskriti Party participated in Monday’s all-party meeting.
During the meeting, Lamichhane urged political parties to resolve the parliamentary deadlock and move forward.
"The president requested that we move forward by resolving the situation leading to the obstruction of the House. He suggested that the Foreign Ministry and the foreign minister have provided clarification regarding the matter on behalf of the government and, if necessary, could present it in Parliament too," said RSP General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti. "Other parties have suggested that we move forward only after holding discussions."
