Opposition parties have decided to continue their protest during the House of Representatives meeting on Monday as well.
Concluding that the statement made by Prime Minister Balendra Shah in Sunday’s session was erroneous, the opposition has demanded that the prime minister appear in Parliament to provide a formal clarification.
Nepali Congress, the main opposition party, had called a meeting of opposition parties on Monday to discuss the matter. Opposition parties including the NC, CPN-UML, Nepali Communist Party (NCP), Shram Sanskriti Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) took part in the meeting held in Singha Durbar.
Speaking to Setopati after the meeting, NCP Chief Whip Yuvaraj Dulal said that the meeting concluded that the prime minister's remarks regarding border encroachment were "treasonous."
"We have reached a conclusion to obstruct the House today with the demand that the prime minister's remarks be expunged from the parliamentary record and that he personally apologize to the nation from the floor of the House," he said.
Shram Sanskriti Party Chief Whip Aaren Rai, who participated in the meeting, also said that the prime minister's statement was erroneous and must be rectified.
Similarly, RPP Chief Whip Khusbu Oli said that the prime minister must clarify in Parliament since he had made an erroneous statement.
After the prime minister made the remarks on Sunday, both the Nepali Congress and the NCP had immediately demanded that he either substantiate his claims or have them removed from the parliamentary record.
