Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said that Nepal has also been found to have encroached on Indian land.
Addressing a meeting of the House of Representatives on Sunday, PM Shah said that he only learned after becoming prime minister that Nepal has encroached on Indian land in some areas.
Lawmaker Aaren Rai of the Shram Sanskriti Party had questioned the prime minister a question regarding India's claims over Nepal's Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura regions.
The issue gained attention after India and China opened the Manasarovar pilgrimage route through Nepal’s Limpiyadhura region.
Responding to the question, PM Shah said the matter should be resolved through diplomatic dialogue and table talks.
“This issue should be addressed diplomatically through table talks. You may find this surprising, but I also learned only after becoming prime minister that not only has India encroached on Nepal’s land, but Nepal has also encroached on India’s land in many places,” Shah said. “I came to know about this only recently. We have encroached [on their land]; they have encroached [on ours]. We are planning to sit down as friends and resolve this.”
