The Supreme Court has said that it has no intention of reconsidering the lottery system used for case assignment.
Joint Registrar Arjun Prasad Koirala, spokesperson for the Supreme Court, issued a press statement on Wednesday, clarifying that there are no plans to review the lottery system.
“Since there has been no formal discussion or deliberation anywhere regarding a reconsideration of the lottery system adopted for daily case management, nor is there any official position on changing the lottery system, this notice is published to inform everyone that the news and opinions published or broadcast and circulated in the media and on social networks are not based on facts,” the statement reads.
Recently, Nepal Bar Association President Bijaya Prasad Mishra raised objections, claiming that attempts were being made to scrap the lottery system.
He said that if the lottery system is removed, they would have to think about what kind of protest they should launch.
"Currently, there are talks about removing the lottery system in the Supreme Court. There is another anxiety about what kind of protest to launch if it is removed,” he said at the time.
