The Nepali Congress has begun discussions on removing Krishna Prasad Sitaula as the party leader in the National Assembly.
According to the party’s statute, the parliamentary party leader in the House of Representatives has the authority to appoint the party leader in the National Assembly. Following the unanimous selection of Bhishma Raj Angdembe as parliamentary party leader on Monday, the issue of changing the National Assembly party leader has been raised, a party leader said.
According to the source, discussions are underway to replace Sitaula with Kamala Panta.
Sitaula is known as a staunch opponent of the special general convention held in January. He had firmly opposed holding such a convention under any circumstances and has not accepted its legitimacy.
He is also one of the key figures conducting parallel activities within the party from the faction of former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba.
For these reasons, there has been growing demand within the party to remove him from the position of National Assembly party leader.
According to the leader, discussions on his removal began after the issue was repeatedly raised within the party in recent days.
