The process of selecting the parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress has been postponed.
Election committee member Muna Bhusal said that the process has been suspended for now.
A schedule had previously been published for the election of parliamentary party leader, with filing of nominations scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on Friday.
However, the central committee meeting requested that the election process be postponed.
“The parliamentary party leader election process has been suspended for now. A committee has been formed under the leadership of Vice-president Bishwa Prakash Sharma. It has been agreed that the committee will hold discussions and attempt to select the parliamentary party leader through consensus,” she said.
Election committee coordinator Prakash Rasaili told journalists that a committee has been formed including Vice-president Sharma, Pushpa Bhusal, General Secretaries Gururaj Ghimire and Pradip Paudel, along with members of the election committee.
“Preparations are underway to select the parliamentary party leader through consensus by tomorrow,” he said.
The Nepali Congress has 38 lawmakers in the House of Representatives.
Former joint general secretaries Arjun Narsingh KC and Bhishma Raj Angdembe, and leader Mohan Acharya are contenders for the position of parliamentary party leader.
Due to a lack of consensus, the Nepali Congress has been delaying the selection of its parliamentary party leader.
