The CPN-UML has demanded the resignation of Home Minister Sudan Gurung.
The home minister has been facing criticism over allegations of concealing share transactions in his asset declaration and having links with a controversial businessman.
“The CPN-UML strongly demands that a fair and independent investigation process be initiated into matters related to the home minister. For this, the CPN-UML clearly states that the investigation must proceed free from any form of power or influence. Therefore, to investigate all matters that the home minister is apparently involved in, a high-level mechanism should be formed and the investigation process should begin immediately. Furthermore, we demand that the home minister immediately pave the way to ensure the investigation process remains smooth, fair, and free from influence, rather than resorting to delays or cover-ups,” a statement issued by UML publicity department chief Min Bahadur Shahi reads.
The UML also noted that questions and concerns have been raised among stakeholders following the public disclosure of ministers’ asset details, and that further debate and discussion on the matter is likely.
"However, the revelation of the case linked to the home minister of the Nepal government has not only raised suspicions, but also indicated that secrets of possible past irregularities and distortions could gradually come to light,” the party said.
