Former minister Jitendra Narayan Dev, who recently left the CPN-UML, has announced his return to the Nepali Congress.
Dev, who was also a Constituent Assembly member from the then Madhesi People’s Rights Forum (Democratic), joined the Nepali Congress along with Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar when the MPRF-D merged with the Congress.
Before joining the MPRF-D, he was in Upendra Yadav's Madhesi People’s Rights Forum. After Gachchhadar split the party, Dev went along with him. Later, Gachchhadar merged the party into the Congress.
Before joining Upendra's party, Dev was in the UML. He left the UML in 2006 to join Upendra's party. Dev was elected as a central committee member of the UML in 1997 at the party’s sixth national general convention held in Nepalgunj.
Dev, who had joined the Congress from MPRF-D, left the Congress on July 1, 2024, and rejoined the UML. He left the UML again on February 2 this year and had been largely inactive since then.
However, after the Nepali Congress elected new leadership through its special general convention, Dev has announced his return to the party.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Dev welcomed, supported, and embraced the policies, ideology, plans, proposals, and commitments passed by the special general convention of the Congress, stating that he is returning to the party.
In the statement, he also expressed full commitment and faith in the central committee elected under the leadership of Gagan Kumar Thapa by the special general convention. Dev mentioned that he and other leaders have returned to the Congress.
"I am fully confident that the new policies and progressive thinking adopted by the special national convention, along with the new leadership, will effectively and decisively advance the campaign for socio-political transformation in the country, and that just as they have begun the process of transforming the party, they will also transform the country in the interest of the people," he said in the statement.
