Some central members close to Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba have urged the party leadership to respect the views of the representatives demanding a special general convention.
A total of 30 central members from the Deuba faction, including Rajendra KC, Bharat Kumar Shah, Arjun Prasad Joshi, Pushpa Bhusal, Karna Bahadur Budha, Ganesh Lama, Anggelu Sherpa, Dila Sangraula, Uday Shumsher Rana, Nanu Bastola, Dhana Khatriwada, Abdul Razzaq, Devendra Raj Kandel, Yogendra Chaudhary, Gopal Dahit, Bahadur Singh Lama, Dilman Pakhrin, Abdul Sattar, Mohan Acharya, Amrit Aryal, Jipchhiring Lama, Ramjanam Chaudhary, Champadevi Khadka, Narayan Bahadur Karki, Chin Kaji Shrestha, held a separate gathering on Friday and made public their position that the demand for a special general convention must be honored.
Central member Dila Sangraula Panta informed Setopati that they held a meeting and issued an appeal.
“Nepali Congress general convention representatives have already submitted a written application demanding a special general convention. Therefore, we earnestly appeal to the leadership to head into the election with new energy and ideas, forging broad unity through dialogue and consensus, and create a result-oriented environment in favor of the Congress, while respecting the views of the representatives making the demand,” the appeal states.
The 30 Deuba-aligned central members are in favor of holding a general convention before the election.
Other central members close to Deuba held another gathering in New Baneshwar on Friday afternoon.
There is ongoing dispute within the Nepali Congress over the issue of a special general convention.
Amid opposition from a majority of leaders from the party's establishment faction, General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma have called a special general convention for January 11 and 12.
