Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has said that the party will not overstep its statute.
Speaking in Kaski on Wednesday after the party’s list of proportional representation (PR) candidates came under controversy, Lamichhane said that the party statute itself prevents any move toward nepotism.
He also said that if the last-minute unity agreement with Kulman Ghising led to errors in the list, they would be corrected.
“The recent situation arose from political developments. We are new. The manner in which the decision to stand together was taken in a relatively short period of time, we did not get enough time to prepare because of it,” he said. “We had already said that there would be time to review it before it even came into public focus. This is especially relevant because our agreement with Kulman ji happened at the eleventh hour.”
“On one hand, the list had to be submitted; on the other, an agreement was being reached. Because of these various reasons, if any problems have occurred, we can look into them. We have already said that we will review the matter,” Lamichhane added.
Stressing that RSP follows due process, he said the party would not go outside established procedures under any circumstances.
“RSP is clear when it comes to nepotism. The statute itself does not allow it. Even if someone were to bypass all procedures, the RSP statute has provisions related to the right to recall. We have already practiced this in the previous House of Representatives,” he said. “That shows we are vigilant. Because of time constraints, we are also waiting to see if there are any other issues.”
