A total of 16 parties have so far submitted their closed lists of candidates for proportional representation so far on Monday, the final day for submitting the lists for the House of Representatives election to be held on March 5, 2026.
As of 8 pm on Monday, the parties that have submitted their closed lists of PR candidates include the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP), Nepal Loktantrik Party, Rastriya Janamorcha, Janapriya Democratic Party, CPN (Pushpalal), Gatisheel Loktantrik Party, Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, Samabeshi Samajwadi Party Nepal, Nepal Janata Samrakshan Party, Nagarik Shakti Nepal, Rastriya Janamukti Party, Nepal Janamukti Party, Mongol National Organization Nepal, Unnat Loktantra Party, and CPN-UML.
The Election Commission had set 4 pm on Monday as the deadline for submitting the lists. However, except for the UML, other major parties have not yet submitted their lists.
What happens to parties that have not submitted their lists yet?
The Election Commission has provided a facility whereby parties that fail to submit their lists within the stipulated time can collect an acknowledgment slip. Parties that have received the slip can submit their PR lists by Monday night or Tuesday.
All other major parties including the Nepali Congress, Nepali Communist Party, and Rastriya Swatantra Party have collected the slip from the commission.
Other parties have also obtained the slip to ensure they have sufficient time for internal preparations.
