Elections are scheduled to take place at the 11th national general convention of the CPN-UML on Tuesday.
Although the UML had planned to conclude the convention in three days, the event will now be extended as elections will be held for office-bearers and the central committee.
Voting in the elections is set to begin at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The election schedule had previously been revised to hold voting from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The UML has been using electronic voting machines (EVMs) manufactured by Ram Laxman Innovation Pvt. Ltd. for its general conventions. The party will be using machines from the same company this time as well.
According to Laxman Rimal, a technician at Ram Laxman Innovation Pvt. Ltd., the Election Commission provided the final list of candidates only at 1 a.m. on Tuesday.
Rimal said that the candidates' photos were being coded onto the voting machines based on the list, and that it would take until 4 p.m. to finalize the list. Therefore, voting will not start at the originally scheduled time of 11 a.m..
According to Rimal, 80 electronic voting machines will be used in the elections this time. Each voter is expected to take at least 35-40 minutes to cast their vote.
A total of 2,262 delegates, including those from geographical and non-geographical areas, organizers, departments, bodies, and nominated members, are taking part in the UML general convention.
