Gopal Krishna Ghimire, former president of the Nepal Bar Association, has been cleared of all charges in a contempt of court case filed against him.
On Monday, a bench of Supreme Court Justices Saranga Subedi and Shanti Singh Thapa acquitted Ghimire, ruling that the allegations against him could not be established.
Ghimire confirmed his acquittal by the court.
The Supreme Court administration had filed the contempt case against Ghimire, who was then president of the Nepal Bar Association, in October 2024.
Ghimire had delivered a speech at an event protesting the decision of the Judicial Council, headed by then-chief justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha, to recommend only two justices for the Supreme Court.
Deputy Registrar Govinda Ghimire had then prepared a report recommending contempt proceedings against Ghimire, accusing him of making public remarks regarding the appointment of judges that could undermine public trust in the judiciary and the chief justice.
