The District Administration Office of Bara has imposed a curfew after clashes broke out between two groups in the Simara Airport area on Wednesday.
Chief District Officer Dhanendra Kumar Mishra issued the curfew order, effective from 12:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The curfew was imposed after clashes broke out between Gen Z youths and UML cadres who had gathered at the airport since Wednesday morning.
According to Superintendent of Police Santosh Tamang, chief of the District Police Office, Bara, around 250 youths had gathered at the airport.
CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, Mahesh Basnet, and other leaders were scheduled to travel to Bara to address a rally organized in Parwanipur by the National Youth Federation Nepal, a sister organization of the UML.
“The situation became tense after protests were held in the airport area itself to obstruct the event,” SP Tamang told Setopati.
According to him, UML cadres reached the airport after one group caused obstruction. Clashes then broke out between the two groups.
The airport gate was damaged during the clash, and stone pelting also occurred inside the airport premises.
SP Tamang said that police resorted to baton-charging after the clashes between the two sides. "The situation is now under control,” he said.
Following the clashes at the airport, the District Administration Office, Bara, issued a curfew order until 8 p.m.
