The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has decided to select its candidate for the by-election in Rupandehi Constituency No. 3 through a primary election.
According to party spokesperson Mohan Shrestha, the party has decided to choose its candidate through an internal primary election, following the model of the RPP’s innovative work plan, in a democratic manner.
The party’s parliamentary committee held a meeting on Tuesday.
Chaired by RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden, who also heads the committee, the meeting held at the party’s central office in Dhumbarahi decided to adopt the primary election system as a new practice for the by-election to the House of Representatives in Rupandehi Constituency No. 3, in line with the RPP’s innovative work plan, Shrestha said.
The by-election in Rupandehi Constituency No. 3 is scheduled for November 3.
The RPP said that the candidate for the by-election will be chosen democratically from among the aspirants recommended by the Rupandehi district working committee.
Spokesperson Shrestha said that the aspirant who secures the highest votes in the internal primary election will be selected as the candidate for the by-election.
The internal primary election will be held as soon as possible, and the necessary arrangements will be made by the Rupandehi by-election mobilization committee, he added.
Earlier, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) also selected Dr Lekhjung Thapa as its candidate for Rupandehi-3 through a primary election.
The by-election is being held to fill the seat that fell vacant after the death of Deepak Bohara, who was elected from the RPP in the House of Representatives election in November 2022.
Swati Thapa, Gaurav Bohara, Prajwal Bohara, and Basanta Bikram Shahi are the aspirants from the RPP for the by-election. Their names have already been recommended.
Among the aspirants, Swati Thapa and Basanta Bikram Shahi are central members of the RPP. Swati, Gaurav, and Prajwal are family members of Deepak Bohara—Swati is his granddaughter, and Gaurav and Prajwal are his sons.

b) Office-bearers and members of the Provincial Assembly (A) and (B) committees under Rupandehi Constituency No. 3
c) Office-bearers and members of all sub-metropolitan, municipal, rural municipal, and ward committees under Rupandehi Constituency No. 3
d) Office-bearers and members of the provincial working committee representing Rupandehi Constituency No. 3
e) Office-bearers and members of the district working committee representing Rupandehi Constituency No. 3
f) Office-bearers and members of sister organizations from the central to district levels within Rupandehi Constituency No. 3, active as of September 2, 2025
g) Active members under Rupandehi Constituency No. 3 who have obtained active membership by September 2, 2025.
