A construction entrepreneur who had sent a complaint by post against Met Mani Chaudhary, federal lawmaker and deputy general secretary of the CPN (Unified Socialist), regarding a dishonored check has now written to the police requesting the withdrawal of the complaint.
A letter from construction entrepreneur Dhat Budha Magar, originally from Rolpa but currently residing in Ghorahi, Dang, expressing his intent to withdraw the complaint mailed earlier arrived on Sunday, said Superintendent of Police Arjun Timilsina, chief of District Police Office, Dang.
Budha Magar’s complaint against Chaudhary, involving a dishonored check of Rs 54 million from Everest Bank, was received by the District Police Office in Ghorahi on Wednesday.
In the intervening period, the police repeatedly summoned Budha Magar to verify the complaint. But since he did not appear for verification, the complaint could not be registered.
"We had called him in the intervening period to confirm he had personally sent the complaint or someone else had sent it on his behalf, but he did not come, therefore it was not registered," SP Timilsina said. "A letter sent by post cannot be registered until the person concern verifies it."
As per the procedure, the person claiming to be the victim in such a postal complaint must visit the police office within a week to withdraw the check dishonor complaint against Chaudhary.
“The complaint can still be registered if the person concerned comes and verifies it,” SP Timilsina said. “If he doesn’t come at all, there’s nothing the police can do either.”
In cases where victims are unable to file a complaint in person with the police due to pressure or influence, they can send their complaint by post.
SP Timilsina urged the public to victims to confidently approach the police if they face any such issues.
Chaudhary, who is also the whip of Unified Socialist, was elected as a House of Representatives member from Dang Constituency No. 1 in the last general election.
