The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) and main opposition CPN (Maoist Center) are close to an agreement on resuming Parliament.
Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Ghimire informed that discussions between the top leaders of the NC and Maoist Center at Shankar Hall in the Federal Parliament building are nearing a consensus.
According to him, talks are progressing toward a written agreement on reopening Parliament.
"Discussions are ongoing to finalize the language of the written agreement. We haven't reached a conclusion yet," he told Setopati.
A leader who attended the meeting said the two parties discussed a middle-ground solution to resume Parliament.
"That means, the discussion is leaning toward a written agreement to form a committee for investigation after the CIAA completes its probe into the visit visa issue," the leader said.
The Maoist Center has backed away from its demand for the home minister's resignation and is now advocating for the formation of a commission to investigate the entire issue, while the Rastriya Swatantra Party remains firm on its demand for the home minister's resignation.
The leader said that discussions are underway to resume Parliament with a written commitment to form another commission or study committee after the CIAA's investigation.
Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal met NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Saturday.
At a meeting of opposition parties held at the Parliament building on Sunday, Dahal briefed that Deuba was not ready to form an investigation committee.
Following the opposition parties’ meeting, Dahal held discussions with top leaders, including NC Vice-president Purna Bahadur Khadka, at Shankar Hall.
