The Federal Parliament Secretariat has announced that the House of Representatives meeting has been postponed until 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
Opposition parties including the main opposition CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), and CPN (Unified Socialist) are firm on their demand for Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak’s resignation over the visit visa scam.
However, the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-UML argue that the home minister should be allowed to address the issue in the House.
As he was not allowed to speak in the House, the home minister held a press conference at the Federal Parliament premises on May 28 and denied his involvement in the visit visa scam.
At a meeting called by Pushpa Kamal Dahal, leader of the main opposition party, at the Federal Parliament premises on Tuesday, opposition parties concluded that a commission should be formed to investigate activities related to visit visas during the tenures of home ministers since 2007.
They also decided that Home Minister Lekhak must clear the way for investigation into the visit visa scam by stepping aside for the entirety of the investigation period and that the prime minister must inform the House about the issue.
Speaker Devraj Ghimire has repeatedly held discussions with the chief whips of the ruling and opposition parties to end the House deadlock, but no agreement has been reached yet.
On Monday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and Maoist Center Chairman Dahal also held talks on resolving the House deadlock, but no understanding was reached.
