Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal held discussions at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in the Singha Durbar on Monday afternoon.
The talks focused on ending the Parliament deadlock, among other issues.
During the discussion, PM Oli emphasized the need to resume Parliament proceedings.
"The prime minister and the home minister proposed that we move forward by reopening Parliament, not demand the home minister’s resignation," said Hitraj Pandey, chief whip of the Maoist Center. "We said that we raised the issue centering on good governance. It was agreed to continue the discussions."
Opposition parties, including the Maoist Center, have been demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak over the visit visa scam, while the ruling coalition insists that the home minister will not resign and should be allowed to speak in Parliament as he is not linked to the scam.
Maoist Center Chairman Dahal maintained that the demand for the home minister's resignation remains unchanged.
"What we have raised in Parliament is the issue of visit visas, and the home minister must pave the way for resolving this matter," Chief Whip Pandey said. "The ruling side argued that since it’s an issue involving employees, the home minister’s resignation is not necessary."
He said that discussions also took place on the need for republicans to move forward unitedly.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, PM Oli’s advisor Agni Kharel said that at least the three major parties would stand together to protect Nepal’s Constitution.
“It was agreed that Parliament should not remain obstructed, and the opposition parties have also said that they will discuss it,” he said. “As we understand it, Parliament meetings will resume from tomorrow."
