Resham Chaudhary, patron of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, has been released from custody.
Chaudhary was arrested on Wednesday based on an unauthorized letter from the Supreme Court. He was released after the Supreme Court issued another letter.
“After receiving another letter from the Supreme Court, we released him following the procedure,” an official at the Dilli Bazar Prison Office said.
On Wednesday afternoon, Chaudhary was arrested from the Nepal Academy premises in Kamaladi of Kathmandu when an event to announce the unification of the Nagrik Unmukti Party and the Janamat Party was about to begin.
After receiving a letter from the Supreme Court’s Case Section directing Chaudhary’s arrest, a team from the District Police Range, Kathmandu, arrested Chaudhary and handed him over to the Dilli Bazar Prison Office.
The Supreme Court administration itself was unaware of the letter, which caused a stir in the court throughout the day.
Mahiman Singh Bista, section officer in the court’s Case Section, was arrested later after it emerged that he had sent the letter without authorization.
Supreme Court spokesperson Achyut Kuinkel released a statement regarding the unauthorized letter sent by Bista.
In the statement issued on Wednesday afternoon, Kuinkel said that legal action has been initiated against the official who wrote the unauthorized letter.
